The next "Beast from the East" is due according to the news, that and Brexit, it is doom and gloom! Don't despair, keep riding your ponies! Our arena is so busy at the moment, it is great to see so many new and old faces coming to Coverwell Farm.
The stables are filling up with horses for starting, again it is great to see so many new young horses to start their learning. Now at the end of January, it seems so long to have gotten this far into 2019, February is a short month but spring is on its way. With the arrival of daffs at the front gate! Shane always worries when they arrive this early, but it does give us all some joy after Christmas. Keep reading, we are making some plans for this year and a few new ventures taking shape here at Coverwell. 2019 is a year of change and development.

I am not a fan of January! Always a slow miserable month, the weather never really helps. This year, the winter weather has been very strange, one minute it is cold the next it is mild, what rug do you put on?!
Spring is on its way, our daffodils are coming out in the gate way. A little early but it gives us some hope! The arena is very busy at the moment. Colina Pickles is very busy in there on a Wednesday night giving flat work and jumping tuition. Aron Tyler is running mounted games clinics, he is inundated with kids! Shane is getting busy with lessons and horses to start, we have quite a variety of horses at the moment, race horses, show jumpers, polo ponies, reiners and more. For more details, venture over to www.shaneborland.com where we have updated with our store for The Safe Clip and Shane's new Pro Start Polo Programme. We still have space for liveries, contact us for information. We are looking to run some sessions for parents. Whether you have experience or not with horses and ponies, we could give you some knowledge and insight in to what common bad habits ponies and horses get into and help in fixing them. We see so often kids and ponies running into a bit of trouble and parents not being able to help out, either from lack of knowledge or not knowing what step to take next. Maybe we end up putting a stronger bit in their mouth (the pony not the kid!), or we just leave it for the kid to deal with. They love their pony so much they are happy to put up with it pulling their arms out the sockets! It doesn't have to be that way.
This type of thing doesn't get taught in Pony Club or Riding Clubs or even at the riding school we go to every Saturday, but it should be. A - to help the child have a better riding experience an B - for the pony. Keep an eye on our facebook page and our website ShaneBorland.com for more details of dates and details. It is that time of year when we struggle to keep our horse going. We have the answer! Our covered 50 x 25 m arena is available for hire.
We welcome Colina Pickles every Wednesday, she has a stream of clients coming for tuition, she spends hours in the arena coaching all levels of rider and horse. For details and availability for the arena, contact us. I haven't posted for so long, very bad of me! Too much going on I guess. It has been a mixed year. We aren't competing so much any more, too much going on at home. We continue our involvement with polocrosse, Sammy is still playing and Shane has spent the season playing a bit. He has also had to focus on coaching the UK Polocrosse team which is a challenge as we prepare for The World Cup taking place in April 2019 in Australia.
As well as all this we continue to run the business having had a very busy year starting a lot of polo ponies. Shane has really enjoyed that side of things. Onwards and upwards, winter is in the process of kicking off! Always a shock to the system. Our arena is available to hire during these dark wet months. But Christmas does slow a few things down, so we have spaces available for livery. Please contact us for more details if you are keen. Otherwise, for now, stay warm and dry and I will post again soon We attended the UK Polocrosse Association Fund Raiser last night and boy did they raise funds! A massive well done to the organising team and a massive thank you to all those who supported the event.
Shane is the national coach of the UK Polocrosse Team heading out to the Polocrosse World Cup in April 2019 taking place in Warwick, Queensland Australia. The main aim this coming week is to stay dry!! So far, the rain has caused some serious flooding in our fields. Fortunately we have been able to empty a couple more stables to allow a couple more to come in before they develop webbed feet. Shane and I are thinking of ditching our cars and investing in a boat!!! And having just seen the latest weather forecast on this evenings countryfile, we will be loading all the animals into that boat!! The diary is starting to fill up which is great, although not much time for social! We have many different horses in now and a waiting list for many more from all sorts of disciplines. Shane loves to have so many different horses, it keeps him on his toes for sure. But as always, his method works wonders on our variety of residents! Keep reading, more news in due course! Today is my birthday! Although the day goes on as normal! Too many mouths to feed, but credit to Shane he has let me stay inside and do house work and play on the computer!!
The big thaw! Having had a few days of freezing temperatures and snow falling inside the barn, we are now left with the big thaw! What joy. At least he water is back on and working and we haven't suffered any leaks. We are quite good at getting prepared for the freezing temperatures now so no big dramas. Horses have continued to be worked as much as normal as possible. Shane does struggle with the cold but just so long as he can pop in the house and warm himself every so often, he is fine! The constant supply of coffee helps! Horses currently in work - a mixture really. Some youngsters destined for polo, a young reiner and a couple of show horses. Horses due to come in, a race horse, some show jumpers and more polo ponies. Keeps us on our toes! We welcome Kelly May Cutmore, Kelly is with us on a part time basis. Welcome Kelly and we hope you enjoy it here! Hopefully, I can keep this blog going and I will add information and photos as often as possible. |
